HowMuch: Currency Camera — Privacy Policy

Effective October 5, 2026

HowMuch converts prices you point your camera at into your currency. It is built to work without knowing who you are: there are no accounts, no sign-in, no ads and no tracking. This policy explains the little data the app does handle.

Camera

Camera images are processed entirely on your iPhone by Apple's on-device text recognition. They are never stored, and never sent anywhere.

Location

If you allow it, HowMuch uses your approximate location only to pick the local currency. The location is sent to Apple's geocoding service to look up the country, and is never stored or shared with anyone else. The app only keeps the resulting currency code, on your device, to notice when you arrive in a new country. Location access is optional; you can choose currencies manually.

Exchange rates

To download daily exchange rates, the app contacts Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.dev) and, as a fallback, the open-source currency-api served through jsDelivr and Cloudflare Pages. These requests contain no personal data or identifiers.

Purchases

In-app purchases are processed by Apple. HowMuch uses RevenueCat to confirm which purchases are active and to sync them across your devices. RevenueCat receives your purchase history, an anonymous app user ID generated by the app, and basic device information (such as device model, OS version and country/storefront). It does not receive your name, email or payment details. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.

Anonymous usage statistics (opt-in)

If you turn on "Share anonymous usage data" in Settings — it is off by default — the app sends anonymous usage signals to TelemetryDeck, such as which screens were used and app version. TelemetryDeck uses hashed identifiers that cannot be linked to you or across apps. Turning the setting off stops sending from the next app launch. See TelemetryDeck's privacy policy.

Data on your device

Your settings, chosen currencies and cached exchange rates are stored only on your iPhone. Deleting the app removes them.

What we don't do

Retention and deletion

We don't hold personal data ourselves. To have your purchase records deleted from RevenueCat or your anonymous statistics deleted from TelemetryDeck, email us with the app user ID shown by long-pressing the version number in Settings → About, and we will request deletion from these providers.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
